WASHINGTON – DUWAMISH WATERWAY – Waterway Closure for Bridge Construction

Construction barges will be blocking the Duwamish Waterway at RM 3.8, South Park Bridge from 0700 until 1900 on 23, 24 and 25 Jan 12. Mariners are advised to avoid the construction area during these times and dates.

WASHINGTON – ELLIOTT BAY – DUWAMISH WATERWAY – South Park Bridge Buoys

Three yellow buoys, with a yellow 4 second flashing light (Fl Y 4s), have been placed in the Duwamish Waterway until 01 Apr 13. Buoy ‘F’ is at 47-31-48.972N, 122-18-54.674W; Buoy ‘G’ is at 47-31-44.003N, 122-18-50.400W; Buoy ‘H’ is at: 47-31-45.516N, 122-18-48.240W. WASHINGTON – LAKE WASHINGTON SHIP CANAL – BALLARD STREET BASCULE BRIDGE – Operating Restrictions

The Ballard Street Bascule Bridge at mile 1.1, on the Lake Washington Ship Canal, will be operating with a single leaf openings and reduced vertical clearance between the hours of 0700 to 1800 from 07 Nov 11 through 05 Mar 12. During this time, a double leaf opening can be arranged provided notice is given no later than 0930 by calling (206) 684-4801 or (206) 310-9297. During this maintenance period, the vertical clearance of the bridge will be reduced up to 4 feet while in the closed position due to the placement of a work platform and debris containment system on the underside of the bridge.

WASHINGTON – TACOMA HARBOR – THEA FOSS WATERWAY – 11th Street South Bridge – Special Bridge Notice

The 11th Street South Bridge across the Thea Foss Waterway, also known as City Waterway, RM 0.6, at Tacoma, WA, will be lowered to the closed position on 14 Nov 11, to facilitate a major rehabilitation project. The bridge will be in the closed position from 14 Nov 11 through 30 Apr 12. During this maintenance period the bridge need not open to marine traffic except as noted in this article. During this maintenance periodthe br idge will be opened as follows: 24 Nov 11 through 27 Nov 11, 24 Dec 11 through 1 Jan 12, and for one weekend, to be determined, in Apr 12. The bottom of bridge is fitted with a debris containment system and while in the closed position provides 57 feet of vertical clearance above mean high water. Vessels which are able to pass beneath the bridge will be allowed to do so during this maintenance period. The project manager for the City of Tacoma is Mr. Tom Rutherford at (253) 591-5767. WASHINGTON – ELLIOTT BAY – DUWAMISH WATERWAY – Slip # 4 Construction

Construction work will be conducted on Slip #4 on the Duwamish Waterway, RM 3.5, in Seattle, WA from 30 Nov 11 until 31 Jan 12.

Construction material will be transported daily from the West Seattle Bridge, RM 1.35, to Slip #4. Mariners transiting IVO Slip #4 are requested to use no wake.

WASHINGTON – ELLIOTT BAY – DUWAMISH WATERWAY – Partial Closure for Bridge Construction

Beginning in Aug 2011 through Feb 2012, , there will be construction work in the vicinity of the South Park Bridge on the Duwamish Waterway. The waterway will be partially obstructed due to construction of concrete pillars and anchoring of barges. Mariners use caution and slowest speedwhile transiting the South Park Bridge area from Aug 2011 through Feb 2012. Complete blockage may occur and will be announced separately.

WASHINGTON – SWINOMISH CHANNEL – Reported shoaling

Numerous soundings of shoaling in the Swinomish Channel have been reported. The primary locations for the shoaling have been from the Swinomish Channel South Entrance, north to the vicinity of La Conner, WA. Some depths have been reports as two (2) feet below the charted depths. Mariners are advised to use caution when transiting this waterway due to the reported shoaling.

WASHINGTON – PUGET SOUND – PORT WASHINGTON NARROWS – Replacement of the Manette Bridge

Manson-Mowat is conducting construction on the Manette bridge replacement project across the Port Washington Narrows in Bremerton, WA. Construction will last through Feb 2012. Most operations will be conducted during daylight hours. The main channel may be restricted during construction. The Derrick Barge Southman and Tug Alison ‘S’ are supporting the bridge construction work, and will be monitoring VHF-FM Ch 13, 16 and 68. Vessels should not stop at any time in the construction area. Mariners are advised to use caution and no wake is requested when transiting the waterway, and contact the Alison ‘S’ when passing in the vicinity. WASHINGTON – PUGET SOUND – COMMENCEMENT BAY – Regulated Navigation Area for portions of the Thea Foss and

Wheeler Osgood Waterways

The U.S. Coast Guard has established a permanent regulated navigation area (RNA) on portions of the Thea Foss and Wheeler-Osgood Waterways in Commencement Bay, Tacoma, Wash. This regulation prohibits all vessel operators from anchoring or other activities that would disturb the seabed in designated areas. These designated areas include: all waters along the shoreline and extending less than half the width of the waterway from Thea’s Park; all waters along the shoreline and extending less than half the width of the waterway from Totem Marine; and all waters shoreward of the 11th Street Bridge. Vessels may otherwise transit or navigate within this area without reservation.
